Moms: Have you experienced any sort of two-year sleep regression with your little ones? For months we've been able to put him down in his crib for bedtime while he was awake. No problem. Now, for whatever reason, he screams bloody murder as soon as we set him down. We've been trying to let him cry it out a bit, but man, oh man, does that hurt my heart. I'm hoping he just magically stops it, just like he magically started it.
In other exciting news, Callum fell and chipped his tooth this week, giving me a heart attack. After a trip to the dentist, it looks like there's nothing to really do about it. So, he's going to have a tough-looking chip in his front tooth until it one day falls out. Thankfully, it doesn't seem to bother him nor do I have to make him endure some sort of traumatizing dental procedure.
As for plans for the Fourth, we hope to check out a local parade, spend lots of time outside, introduce Callum to sparklers, and check out our local fireworks (cause obviously keeping Callum up super late for fireworks is going to fix his sleep issues). My brother and Anna will be in town, too. They are getting married next September (in Milwaukee) and are officially starting all the fun that is wedding planning. I'm seriously way too eager to help. Reel it in, Megan.
Also, in case you've been on the edge of your seat wondering what purse backpack I bought last week, I ended up going with this Frye one.
Totally kidding. I wish I got that one. I actually ended up with this one from good ole Target. And, I absolutely love it. It's comfortable, fits a couple of diapers + snacks, and goes with basically everything.
Per the usual, here are a few things I'm toats in love with this week. Toats. What are you making for your Fourth of July BBQ? I love me a good themed party, so send me all of your festive Fourth ideas!
Sorry for shouting. I'm just a little excited to make these this weekend. Who's coming over?
2. To balance out all the champagne, I'll also be drinking a ton of La Croix this weekend. A few weeks ago, I entered a Father's Day contest La Croix had on Instagram and ended up winning a bunch of cases of this liquid gold. My fridge is officially stocked. What are your favorite flavors? I'm down with any and all of them, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be coconut.
Riddle me this: Why is grapefruit the only La Croix flavor labeled in French? You've got your lime. You've got your peach-pear. You've got your coconut. Then, there's pomplemousse. I just don't get it. Can someone please explain?
3. On Tuesday morning, a friend posted on FB about a local blood drive. Thanks to her post, I strapped Callum in the car, grabbed my backpack purse, and headed out to give blood. I haven't donated in a couple years, and I needed to change that. I told Matt that I was planning on donating, and he actually ended up stopping to give a pint that afternoon, too.
So, if you're healthy and have a little time to spare, think about heading to your local blood center to donate. Your donation can save the lives of premature babies, mamas with labor complications, people who have experienced trauma, and so much more. Thanks to my friend's post, Matt and I both donated. If this post gets even one of you to give, I would be beyond happy. If you're looking for more motivation, here are a few inspiring stories on lives that have been saved thanks to blood donations.
4. This instructional video on how to hold a baby has been circulating the interwebs. It is hilarious. Totally worth a watch.
5. Last but certainly not least, thanks to a few chilly nights this week, I was inspired to make this Turkey Bolognese from Bev Cooks. It is a definite family fam. Although it requires a little bit of time to simmer on the stove, it's quick to throw together and I usually have everything I need to make it on hand. Plus, everyone in the family love its.
Also, if you've never checked out Bev Cooks, you have to immediately. Her recipes are simple and delicious, her writing is hilarious, and her photos are gorgeous. She's got the blogging trifecta.
And, that's all I've got for ya today. I hope you all have a wonderful Fourth of July, you party animals.
